HalloweenSelfie

Privacy policy, terms of use and credits

Effective 13 October 2026 · Applies to the HalloweenSelfie app for iPhone

In short: your data stays on your phone.

Privacy policy

HalloweenSelfie is a prank camera: you take a selfie with a friend, a ghost appears behind them, and their reaction is recorded. All of this happens on your device.

We do not collect, save or receive any data. The app contains no code that sends information to a server. It has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking or data-collection services. We, the developer, cannot see your photos, videos, face scan or anything else you do in the app.

What the app keeps on your device only:

The app asks for these permissions:

When data leaves your phone, it's because you sent it. If you tap Share and pick an app such as TikTok, Instagram or Facebook, the video goes to that app and is handled under its terms and privacy policy. If your Photos library syncs with iCloud, saved pranks sync as part of Apple's service, which you control in your iPhone's settings.

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored. Pranks you saved to Photos or shared stay where you put them.

Why the app uses face recognition

The prank only works if the ghost appears behind your friend and never behind you. To tell you apart, the app asks the owner for a short face scan when it's first opened.

Terms of use

Children

HalloweenSelfie is not directed at children under 13 and is rated 12+ for mild horror themes. Because the app collects no personal data at all, it does not knowingly collect data from children of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.

Ownership & credits

HalloweenSelfie, including its code, design, name, pumpkin logo, app icon, watermark and end card, was created by and for the developer. All rights reserved.

The ghost artwork was generated by the developer with ChatGPT (OpenAI) from the developer's own prompts. Under OpenAI's terms of use, rights in such generated output are assigned to the user who created it.

Sound effects are from Pixabay, used under the Pixabay Content License: the ghost sounds “Piano Reverse 4” and “Piano Reverse 8” by alexzavesa and “Oboe, Amp & Strings 2 (Ominous)” by foggysunrise, and the end card's laugh from “My name is Mephistopheles” by somnium_vox.

The lettering uses the fonts Creepster, Fredoka and Inter, licensed under the SIL Open Font License.

Face detection, person segmentation and image processing use Apple's built-in iOS frameworks.
